Hanan Ghouneim

Hanan is a mother and community leader, she has worked within her community for over 15 years, doing a variety of things to help support local families.

One of the highlights was leading ‘Parkview Olympics’ a six-week programme of free sports activities for children and young people in White City. It helped young people to choose a healthier lifestyle and enjoy being active.

Another way she stays in tune with her community, and something she loves doing, is volunteering at the weekly Food Distribution at the White City Community Centre, being there every week for the last year means she can understand the concerns of the community.

Hanan is a big believer in how important it is to invest in the next generation. She believes its important to educate herself and her community to be empowered and show the way to her community’s young people. By being young once a upon a time, being a mother to young people and working with them she has learnt to see through their eyes. She says: “If we invest and work hard, we can help the young people to own it!”

Hanan will be working alongside Dr Arpana Soni and Phoebe Rutherford from Connecting Care for Children (CC4C) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Having volunteered with the team for over five years, Hanan has helped to develop meaningful links with the community and championed working with health professionals to improve children and young people’s health. During the Fellowship, the trio will be focusing on the identified local child health concern: young people’s ownership of their healthcare, working closely with local stakeholders to drive change.
